22 killed, 50 wounded in Bali explosions

BALI, Indonesia - At least two bombs exploded almost simultaneously Saturday in tourist areas of the Indonesian resort island of Bali, killing at least 22 people and wounding about 50 others, officials said. The blasts came a month after Indonesia's president warned of possible terrorist attacks.

The wounded included at least two Americans.

The blasts at two packed seafood restaurants in Jimbaran beach and a bustling outdoor shopping center in downtown Kuta were the work of terrorists, Indonesian President Suslio Bambang Yudhoyono said. He also warned that more attacks were possible.

"We will hunt down the perpetrators and bring them to justice," he said after being briefed by top security officials. He also urged people "to be on alert."

The attacks occurred nearly three years to the day that bombings in Kuta killed 202 people, mostly foreigners. Those attacks, and subsequent deadly bombings in 2003 and 2004, were blamed on the al-Qaida-linked terror group Jemaah Islamiyah.

Western and Indonesian intelligence agencies have consistently warned the group was plotting more attacks. Last month, Yudhoyono said he was especially worried the extremist network was about to carry out more attacks.

"I received information at the time that terrorists were planning an action in Jakarta and that explosives were ready," he said late Saturday.

Vice President Yusuf Kalla told the British Broadcasting Corp. it was too soon to identify the bombers. He said Yudhoyono will visit the area Sunday.

Putu Putra Wisada, spokesman at the Sangla Hospital in the capital, Denpasar, said 11 dead were taken to the hospital and 38 other people were admitted with injuries - 28 Indonesians, eight Australians and two Americans.

Officials at the Graha Asih Hospital close to Jimbaran Bay said at least 11 bodies were in its morgue, and doctors were treating about a dozen people.

"It's a horrible scene," said a receptionist, Komang.

Australian Foreign Minister Alexander Downer told the Australian Broadcasting Corp. on Sunday that at least one Australian was killed. Metro TV said a Japanese citizen also was killed.

The latest bombs went off at about 7:30 p.m. at three restaurants packed with foreign and Indonesian diners.

I Wayan Kresna said he witnessed the first bomb at a seafood restaurant on Jimbaran beach. He counted at least two dead and said many others were brought to a hospital.

"I helped lift up the bodies," he told the private El Shinta radio station. "There was blood everywhere."

Baradita Katoppo, an Indonesian tourist from Jakarta, said another bomb went off in the Nyoman Cafe, where he was eating dinner with friends.

"I could see other people sustained injuries," he said. "There was blood on their faces and their bodies. It was very chaotic and confusing, we didn't know what to do."

About 18 miles away in Kuta, an explosion hit the three-story Raja noodle and steakhouse in a bustling outdoor shopping center. Smoke poured from the badly damaged building.

The bomb apparently went off on the restaurant's second floor, and an Associated Press reporter saw at least three bodies and five wounded people there. There was no crater outside the building, indicating the blast was not caused by a car bomb.

The area includes a KFC fast-food restaurant, clothing stores and a tourist information center.

The exact number of blasts was not clear. Some witnesses said they heard at least two explosions at each location.

Since the Oct. 12, 2002, Bali blasts, Jemaah Islamiyah has been tied to at least two other bombings in Indonesia, both in the capital, Jakarta. Those blasts, one at the J.W. Marriott hotel in 2003 and the other outside the Australian Embassy in 2004, killed at least 23.

As an enlightened, modern parent, I try to be as involved as possible in the lives of my six children. I encourage them to join team sports. I attend their teen parties with them to ensure no drinking or alcohol is on the premises. I keep a fatherly eye on the CDs they listen to and the shows they watch, the company they keep and the books they read. You could say I'm a model parent. My children have never failed to make me proud, and I can say without the slightest embellishment that I have the finest family in the USA.

Two years ago, my wife Carol and I decided that our children's education would not be complete without some grounding in modern computers. To this end, we bought our children a brand new Compaq to learn with. The kids had a lot of fun using the handful of application programs we'd bought, such as Adobe's Photoshop and Microsoft's Word, and my wife and I were pleased that our gift was received so well. Our son Peter was most entranced by the device, and became quite a pro at surfing the net. When Peter began to spend whole days on the machine, I became concerned, but Carol advised me to calm down, and that it was only a passing phase. I was content to bow to her experience as a mother, until our youngest daughter, Cindy, charged into the living room one night to blurt out: "Peter is a computer hacker!"

Civil aviation more talked about in a decade?

I have a feeling that civil aviation is more popular/talked about than at any time in the last 4 years or more. this is a big stand, "half the wolrd and his dog are talking about civil aviation" this was from the toronto air canada crash highlighting how safe aircraft are and the recent release of the pmdg 747-400 "queen of the skies" which is the best 747 for flight simulator, or even the best plane for flight sim ever, over 1,200 moving parts, well, i cant wait till i get a copy. this phenomenon has swamped the aviation world and in the simulation world, alot of servers that hosted pmdg files or even forums, were so swamped that they had to be shut down temporarily. i dont know whats happening with my life right now... i dont feel like doing anything, i dont feel like friends, or like anything, i have no life and i am bored sums it up, so bored that i dont know what to do with myself, i dont feel like chatting, all i feel like doing is blogging, is it like a mid-teen crisis, like, comment here if you have had a part of your life where you dont care about anything, i think im gonna snap, teachers have been annoying me, i know, and feel like im on the brink of doing something rash. (not suicide or anything) just like, i know i can walk out the classroom, i can walk out the school, i know i dan do anything, and i want this freedom, i only do things if they dont involve energy, like i was like i might as well walk out the school, but there are repercussions, who gives a stuff about em anyway?
anyway, i dont know, i begin to wonder why i am here, why everything is here, what purpose do we represent? what are we doing here? why is the world like this, i dont know what to believe, creation, or evolution? and the big bang, or creation. i cant see if theres anything to live for, i can't hear anyone from "above" telling me stuff, im just well, me. any help on my social/emotional state will be greatly appreciated. i feel like, i have just opened my mind to every possible thing, ever made, and possible/impossible. i am on the fine line between true and flase.

Plastic to Steel

One day, a garbage researcher called Tony Eastley cam up with an idea, it was simply this: plastic>carbon>steel!
what she did, was extracted the carbon out of plastic, then used that carbon to make steel, a great way to get rid of plastic from dumps, if only we could do that with everything, well, then this could make the steel exports rise by a heap and the plastic amounts will slowly dissapate. Thats pretty cool huh!?

Vista GUI

hey, ive been looking at the windows vista GUI, god, theyve tried to mix up Fedora core, mac and the XP interface into one, it does look good but it isn't very original.
just look, the nice little mac themes in the buttons on boxes and bar thingies at the top of program windows, linux ish start bar and control panel (although linux doesn't have one tyhe icons) and the windows start menu. mix it into 1, and what do u get?? lol. Vista

There was a recent dicovery by the US government about a massive ID theft ring called coolwebsearch, and this is what it looks like whats above:
this program was a massive operation that collected personal information and uploaded it to a server. Sunbelt, the people who discovered this found the identities of two people, which could be sold for up to $350,000USD.
The list of stolen information includes not only bank accounts but website passwords, eBay accounts, what sort of adult images you fancy, and, supposedly, even more.

this is what sunbelt said:
"We have notified the FBI, but of course no response (too busy doing other more important things). We have notified a few of the parties involved...If anyone has any other ideas, send 'em to us. Right now, we're sitting upon literally thousands of pages of stolen identities that are being used right now."

Basically, it went like this:

Patrick Jordan, our CoolWebSearch expert, was doing research on a CWS exploit. During the course of the research, he disovered that a) the machine he was testing became a spam zombie and b) it send a call back to a remote server. He traced back the remote server and found what you have heard about.

The scale is unimaginable. There are thousands of machines pinging back in a day. There is a keylogger file that grows and grows, and then is zipped off and then the cycle continues again.

It is sophisticated. There are nifty little PHP scripts that help the criminals get reports. There is a special upload area.

Updated (08/06/2005 5:38PM CDT): Here's more information from Eric Sites, VP of R&D at Sunbelt:

While one of my spyware researchers was tracking down new variants of CoolWebSearch he came a cross a payload of crap that was downloaded to his VMware. This payload included a program that monitored the users internet traffic, chat activity and Windows protected storage store. When using Internet Explorer with autocomplete turned on, your autocomplete info gets stored in protected storage.

This piece ofspyware collected your protected storage info plus URLs, chat activity and website usernames and passwords. The real problem with this spyware was that it collected this information and posted it back to a public website that anyone could go to and read all of your personal information. Some examples of this include all the credit card info entered on HTML forms while purchasing something online. It did not matter that the webpage was using HTTPS.

This website had collected over 500 different computers very private information within a 24 hours period. Including chat activity and login info to online bank accounts. One company had over $380,000 in a compromised account. The information was not the normal info collected for hacking purposes. It was collected to steal your money, SSN, credit card info, address, and identity. We have already found two variants of this spyware with multiple locations for its stolen info upload. We are working with the FBI and Secret Service to track everything back to the source."

Gizmodo has a story out about a new product that makes fire from water. Gizmodo explains how it works: 'Ordinary tap water (preferably distilled) is supplied to the fireplace through a pipe or tank, a 220 volt electrical service then separates the hydrogen and oxygen atoms through electrolysis, the Aqueon ignites the hydrogen, and ta-dah, fire! The oxygen is then added for color and brightness, while the rest is released into the room. It doesn't require venting because it doesn't produce any harmful emittents like carbon monoxide -- just water vapor.' The manufacturer's website has more information on the science behind this new product. While splitting water to get hydrogen and oxygen is not new, this product will likely make the technology more accessible to the masses and might hopefully show that hydrogen is a more attractive fuel than petroleum-based fuels.

Seven Russian sailors have only one day of air left after the propeller of their mini-submarine became snarled in a fishing net off the country's east coast.

Officials with Russia's Pacific Fleet were getting ready to send down another vessel to take a look at the 13-metre-long sub's predicament, spokesman Alexander Kosolapov said Friday.

"We have a day, and intensive, active measures will be taken to rescue the AS-28 vessel and the people aboard," Capt. Igor Dygalo said in a statement delivered on Russian television.

None of the sailors were hurt in Thursday's accident, which occurred during a training exercise.

The United States Navy has offered its help to bring up the mini-submarine or get the sailors safely off before their air supply runs out. A Japanese ship is also heading to the scene, and nine warships are already there.

The mini-sub is stuck 190 metres below the ocean surface in Beryozovaya Bay, about 160 kilometres south of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky on Russia's Pacific coast.

The Priz diving apparatus is the same type of vessel used in unsuccessful attempts to save the 118 crew members of the Russian submarine Kursk after it sank in August 2000.

hey, theres alot of comotion about the space shuttle discovery about trying not to be a repeat of the columbia. it seems to be getting safe, but how safe can NASAs astronauts get, while in space, with what limited stuff they have??? Well, they have got rid of prutruding pieces, tried wind tunneling the models for what might happen to the thermal blanket under the front windows. what else is there? pieces or insulation foam missing. luckly, some not form the hull. but hey, taking precautions is the safe side, lets just hope that the shuttle doesn't burn up on reentry, ill be watching it with my nasa mission stream, well, watch it too why dont you?

Rowling’s newest book Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince looking for action, adventure, and clues as to what might happen in the seventh and final installment in the series due out in 2007. What they didn’t expect to find was hardcore scat porn involving some of Rowling’s most beloved characters, and yet there it is.

Children as young as eight have reported finding sexually explicit sequences just like that spread throughout the book thanks to a flaw in the publication process officials are calling the “hot cauldron” mod. Understandably, parents around the world are furious over the matter and have called on Congress and Parliament to have the defective books removed from store shelves.

In its defense Rowling’s publisher Scholastic claims that the objectionable material was never intended for young eyes or even public release. The production staff carefully hid the material between chapters through a special printing process, but the millions of counterfeit copies on the market carry a flaw which allows readers to “unlock” Chapter 18 5/8, aka the Slytherin orgy sequence.

The publisher has reassured readers that everything will be fine but advises parents to ensure that their copy is genuine before handing it over to their children.

hey, thats a link to a report about Amy Gillet, the girl who died cycling in germany training for the commonweath games next year... Unfortunately, that isn't my point, im just wondering... because only last night, i dreamed about a cyclist being killed on the road. Wierd huh, and i first thought, someone in the Tour de France? and then i realised its over, isn't it??? so i told my mum this morning... she thought i was saying a cyclist died on the road, then she said, there was nothing on the radio, and i said i dreamed about it, then we turned on the news tonight and it wa saying "the cyclist died near [some place] in Germany and her name was Amy Gillet" wierd huh?
well, if anything else comes up, ill be sure to tell.

A new blogging milestone

hey, i was looking at my slashdot news as i usually do during the evening and i found an article about Darren Rowse, he has over 20 blogs, but because so many people read his blog he gets up to $20,000 a month on google asdense, well at least last month, he is a great example for all us hopefuls, well, im a hopeful and want to be as succesful as him, i just gotta work up the standards. he is a great role model for me and i'll try and post in his style.
I dont exactly want to be a clone of him, but i would very much like lots of traffic to keep this blog up, if i get traffic then i get to be a better poster etc. the less traffic i get then the less posts i make, because noones interested, anyway, enough of my rant, check his out ;)

Well until now, scientist thought George Lucas was crazy about there being a planet with 2 suns. They said that solar systems could only have 1 sun... well they have found a planet with 3 suns... Its not tatooine like because of the Desert, its actually a Gas giant a bit bigger than jupiter. it orbits the tri star system of HD 188753... nice name aye.. itll probably be changed to tatooine, just wait for it... well, it'll probably come, along with a law suit from Lucas... all these directors want money, why not give it to them ;)

well, its finally here, Harry Potter and the half blood prince... now, who has read it already? i bought it but haven't started it... will this be another phenomenon? JKR has already got a net worth higher than Queen Elizabeth II, how far will she go? with one book to go, which will undoubtely be the highest earner, she might even get into the top 10 richest people in the world(is she already?) So anyway, when Me and Mum drove through the city today which a brochure got the directions wrong to the carpark, we saw these kids and even parents dressed up as harry potter...!

Poverty

i was watching live8 tonight and i realised how bad poverty is. Every three seconds someone in south africa dies. That is even worse than terroism, i know im being a bit cynical, but in such a nice country, every day, 30,000 people there die, most being young children that didn't have a chance. Just left there to die because they dont have the money to buy drugs for $10 maximum. One of them was lucky, she had 10 mins left to live after the last concert "band-aid" and she survived because of it, she finished a university degree and is a young, good looking woman, she was brought on stage, that just goes to show, there is hope. for anyone, if everyone who has enough money in the world donated 50 bucks a month that would be $150'000'000'000 a month, surely thats enough to at least keep them alive.what world vision, live8 and others is doing is putting up a great protest about this for the G8 members to talk about, think about this, they just added 30'000'000'000 to the poverty, the more people involved, the less poverty. it may get some people that little bit poorer but it will improve the world community lately, this is even trying to get zimbabwe in a fit state again.

please help out guys, this is for the less fortunate ones

Yesterday london was awarded the 2012 olympics and today... its had terrorist attacks. 6 bombs, 3 at underground stations, 3 on double decker buses, whats this world coming to? yes, it is suspected to be Al Qiaeda. but i have my own conspiracy theory, that it was the french, because they missed out (no offence frenchmen) but anyway, ive been watching the headlines, over 150 injured, 2 confirmed dead, it says that the authorities thought it was power surges, until the roofs of buses flew off, and then there was trouble, lots of people storming to the front of the bus, the city is in a standstill but the crickets still playing. Ok, London was suspected to be the next target, and viola, theres your attack! (not funny at all) well i think that the intelligence serves right, and Tony Blair is on his way to london as i speak. It is ironic having the prime minister out of london at G8 and the London mayor in singapore, now why would he be in singapore. anyway, the emergency squads have put their training to good use, and now the rescue operation seems to be going smoothly. only hours until we find out what happened...

hey, i got back from noosa yesterday...(its up the coast)
anyway, while i was there i had nice food/ice creams etc.. but thats not my posts content... just an intro...

i actually feel sorry for the noosa coucil. why?.. this... look here: ...
see that beach? the main beach in noosa... it has alot of problems... that is why i feel sorry for noosa shire council.
see, about 5-10m inland it goes like this? --_
a slight drop. that is an old picture so yeah... that is from the sea eroding the beach. when i was there, it was a 1-5m high sharp cliff. that was from the erosion... this cliff moved back about a meter every night. also, its really funny, since there used to be rocks near the boardwalk there is a set of rails there, where some stars are. lol. but yeah, i feel sorry for the coucil because every 6months to 2 years, they have to cart sand from another beach to this beach thats at least 1000 tonnes. i think that that is a total money-waster.

Many home RAID setups that I have seen are more for show than they are as a speedup. Most of them are RAID 0 - i.e., they're for "performance", not redundancy (I assume the reason is that most people don't want half their space to dissapear with RAID 1, but don't want to have to use enough drives to make RAID 5 effective). Yet the primary performance limits on a home PC's disk performance (apart from operating-system issues like the filesystem and caching) are latency-based, not throughput based; RAID, if anything, will increase your latency.

If you want a high performance system, spend the money to get a small, top-of-the-line drive for your root partition (15k rpm SCSIs are nice, if you have a scsi card - you can get a 9 gig for 30$ including shipping, an 18 gig for 55$), and then put all of your space-consuming files (movies, music, etc) on your cheap bulk storage. Get enough spare ram to have good disk caching. And, of course, choose a good filesystem for small files - ReiserFS works well for me, but there are a lot of good options.

You only need major throughput if you're doing a lot of very long file reads that need to occur at top speed (i.e., not playing video or listening to music; more like what you need for running a large relational database, or being a fileserver on a crazy-fast network). To the "Raid 0" crowd: Does this really fit your disk's typical usage patterns?

In the news lately has been reports about japans great trade in whaling. They say its for research... what a load of BS. killing over 8,000 whales since 1990 something. Thats research? well ill be damned. Are they trying some sore of survey of how much blubber can they get from every whale in the world? Dude, who wouldn't realise that whale meat etc. is one of the biggest trades in japan. these boats haul in their lines with a whale on it, then they cut it up and remove all the fat etc. on the boat, call that research? i call it a foodfest... i would bring the whale back to japan and put it in a lab whole... not cut it up and get all the meat out. ive even seen pictures of whale meat dealers, and it aint nice...

Its your choice: whaling, whaling, whaling... or research.

Army Ops

In the news yesterday 1,300 paratroopers went for a nice parachute for military operations, these were australians and americans, well, the americans came in on the exact minute with no trouble, good ay. The australians came in the morning after and one actually broke his leg on the fall, i thought paratroopers were trained to use parachutes. I think its the Australians fault for not giving them enough training. Although the Australians are well known around the world for having some of the best trained special forces, this was a small mistake, lucky it was only training. On the other hand, the U.S.A sometimes trains people too fast as to not make them very good troops(no offence U.S.A people). So, that was just a small mistake for that guy to improve on, when he heals.

i was talkin on a forum today about this blog and some guy posted

" I hate blogs. I mean, why do I want to read about your life. That's just stupid."

well, what i have to say to that is this:

he hates blogs?... true
he wants to think about my life?... false. so why have them if they are stupid.

my answer is... tell that to the rest of the bloggers in the world, ask them that question. they would probably say: "blogs aren't just about peoples lives,(thats what mines about so far) they can be about a whole host of things"

well, mine is about everything (look at the top), i sometimes go to slashdot to see if there is anything good to talk about on here, every day i get their mail, and since this is only my first day, i looked and there wasn't anything remotely interesting. but theres always tomorrow, and the next day... etc.

ive decided that blogs are a great form of communication, and for those who don't. i feel sorry for.

this happened a few days ago:

my friend says he has a server (his home computer, noob) anyway, i was asking all these questions through my friend (he spotted me, lol)
anyway, i asked things he had and he answered...

what server software?=XP (now how dumb is that, IIS couldve been credible, but from my knowledge he has xp home)

Do you have a molex cable(what connects to the power supply) ?=ill have to check.

what format hard drive and space?= 40GB FAT (OMG that is such an old format)

PHP?=http? ill have to check (now, what kinda dumbass thinks php is http?)

Network card?=ill have to check (lol, he doesn't have a network card? nice server then)

javascript?=ill have to check (uhh DUR IS A FRIGGIN browser parsed thing)

XML?=same as above

etc. etc. etc

OMG NOOBILICIOUS!!!!

also, he thinks hes a pro at flash because he can make a thing that makes his name flash... like a strobe, and makes different backgrounds by using the filled rectangle tool instead of in "properties"

Fedora Core 4

Today i installed Fedora Core 4, i had FC3, but the CD was stuffing up badly, so i formatted the partition, reinstalled FC3 and then upgraded to FC4 (i am so dumb not to do a fresh install of FC4) anyway since my mobo is an intel 915g it showed this message when i said to install the O/S
"<0>Kernel Panic - not syncing: attempted to kill init!"

now i thought WTF?

so after about an hour of searching and another 3 of trying to install and even burning a new disk, i found my problem:

i had to press F4 to open the kernel thing and type in

"linux pci=nosort text" i dunno if the text had to be there, because i would much prefer the graphical installer.

so after that tedious time i decided to test some things out such as wine etc...

(wine enables windows progs to be used)

now to set up the webserver, again, and maybe see if there are any good upgrades on the FC4 cds...
:(

oh what a great half a day of installing linux, well, now to wait for FC5 sometime... when its out...

anyway, SO SIMPLE BUT SO HARD!!! im a noob and dunno how to use the commands

anyway, FC4 is a great O/s im just a linux noob, at least i admit it
